The Bryson City Scarecrow Contest is an annual fall community event in Bryson City, North Carolina, organized by the local Chamber of Commerce. Throughout the month of October, local businesses and organizations create and display unique, handmade scarecrows across downtown. The event fosters community spirit and concludes on Halloween, when the best creations are awarded trophies.
2026 Fryemont Inn Scarecrow Contest Entry
Meet the Frye Family!

We’re thrilled to share our entry in this year’s Bryson City Scarecrow Contest: the Frye Family Fall Festival
Our fall scarecrow display is a little nod to Amos Frye, the original owner of the Fryemont Inn, and our mountain music heritage.
What started as an idea for a bluegrass-themed scarecrow turned into something much more fun, thanks to two very special members of our Fryemont family:
- Darrell, our wonderfully talented maintenance man and former bandmate of George’s, handcrafted Grandpa’s banjo.
- Sandra, who’s been welcoming guests at our front desk for nearly 15 years, took the idea and ran with it! She dreamed up the family gathering, sourced the decorations, and brought the whole scene to life.
One of the best things about the Fryemont is the people who make it special. We’re so fortunate to work alongside folks whose creativity, friendship, and enthusiasm go well beyond their job descriptions.
Thank you, Sandra and Darrell! We absolutely love what you’ve created. ❤️
If you’re in Bryson City, stop by and say hello to the Frye family—and be sure to check out the other wonderful scarecrow entries around town! 🍂
